Idea to Get More Subscribers from Followers and the Internet
To encourage people to want to subscribe to your newsletter, and not just "follow" it, or find it on search engines, I think this idea can work (maybe other people have spread it before, I don't know).
It is very simple, with 3 steps:
1- You write your post on Substack and send it to your subscribers (everyone can read it and comment).
2- Then you leave about 100 words (the minimum for Google to consider it), as a teaser, and replace everything else with a text or button that says something like this: "This article was visible to subscribers when it was sent".
3- You broadcast the article on Notes (followers won't be able to see the substantive content if they don't subscribe). You can use, here, other teaser (for example, a short text of your original article).
Advantages:
Comments remain open forever (unlike paid subscriptions). If visitors and followers see comments, but not the main text, they may want to subscribe.
You convert a good part of your followers in Notes into subscribers.
You can reuse some of the "removed" content in other articles: Google will not penalise you, because it is not duplicate content (it is no longer in your post).
You turn internet visitors into subscribers. This is not mere speculation: https://substack.com/@doblepiso (their newsletter on financial aspects is highly recommended and popular), although no longer used, applying part of this strategy, achieved 90% of conversions to subscription.
